Scientific Focus

The CCRI was founded in 1988 and has since developed into the largest centre for research related to childhood cancer in Austria. The overall aim is to improve the treatment options for children suffering from cancer. In order to do so the institute interacts closely with its two spin-off companies Trimed Biotech and LabDia, the St. Anna Children's Hospital and other pediatric oncology hospitals and research institutions in Austria, Europe and beyond.

Scientists at the CCRI conduct hypothesis-driven research into the causes of cancer for a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of malignant disease. The institute also continuously strives to improve current and develop new molecular assays for diagnostic purposes. The genetic analyses of Austrian tumor samples for diagnostic purposes are routinely performed here.

Virtually all studies in pediatric oncology run by Austrian clinics are monitored by the CCRI in close co-operation with the St. Anna Children’s Hospital. Overall the institute provides a stimulating atmosphere and the necessary infrastructure for biomedical research and applied approaches in clinical research. The institute's leadership recognises the need for international co-operation and supports any collaborative activity of the CCRI's researchers, who are consequently involved in several national and international projects.

If you are interested in a collaboration with the CCRI, please get in touch with the relevant head of unit.
